I’m Bastab, based in Melbourne, Australia. I work at the intersection of AI, cloud, and DevOps (AI-augmented in how I build, AI-native in what I build) - full stack applications and the infrastructure, pipelines, and observability that run them, end to end.

Over 14 years I’ve delivered full stack production software for enterprise organisations spanning healthcare, semiconductor manufacturing, smart transport, government and public sector domains.

I think about AI as a first-class concern in two ways:

  • AI-augmented development - AI is in the development loop itself: code generation, design review, automated testing. The app doesn’t need to use AI; the process of building it does.
  • AI-native applications - AI services are part of what the app does at runtime: agentic workflows, RAG pipelines, real-time inference. AI is a functional component, not a development aid.

This shift isn’t a tool swap; it’s a different way of thinking about what software can do on its own.

  • I write and maintain this blog as notes to self. I utilise these technologies daily and need a space and soundboard to keep track and remind myself of things I learn.
  • Most of the posts are live, indicating I review and update them as and when I learn and implement more on each topic.
  • The posts are specific by topic but written generically - the steps should work in any environment with minimal adaptation.
  • I use WSL2 with Ubuntu Linux on Windows (with occasional usage of Powershell) at work and native terminal on MacOS off-work for side projects. These steps are tried and tested for most of my use cases and should work for anyone following them.
